This is going to be a blog with many themes: training a service dog, wine tasting, poetry, disability, and reflections on my two area examine reading lists. The photos will be of friends, plants, animals, and textures. While these things may seem disparate, to me they all flow through one giant nexus: sensation. I am a "super sensor," and this blog will be asking questions about sensory information and flows, neurodivergence, language, the lines drawn between human and nonhuman animals, and how those lines are used to oppress so many groups of human-animal, nonhuman-animal, and natural lives.
This summer marks my transition from a graduate student, taking classes and following directions, to an independent scholar, determining my own interests and projects. Unfortunately, academia is a place that makes deep assumptions about ability. While my scholarship comes from my heart and my gut, how my body works will always be in creative excess of academic expectations. This blog will be a place to catch the excess that doesn't become poetry.
I hope this blog can be useful to other researchers, readers, writers, poets, neurodivergent sensors, service dog trainers, and wine tasters.
